About / Biography

My name is Jack Finney, I am a professional bass player and music teacher with over a decade experience in performing, teaching and recording music. Songs with my bass playing on have been played on BBC Radio 1, Absolute Radio and several regional stations. I have performed live at BBC Introducing in Nottingham and at Splendour festival in front of 100s of people. My experience in techincal recording and engaging live performance make me an ideal choice for your event or session as required!

My most frequent genre is alt-rock, grunge and shoegaze but I have wide-ranging repertoire of classics all the way up to modern-day hits!

I am looking to use my experience to add that funamental bass foundation to any band for your wedding, function, party or recording session. I'll be sure to give you the precision and energy that you need!

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I will need a minimum performance space of 1.5mx1.5m, at least one plug socket and ideally a parking space but not essential.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I won't personally bring lighting equipment but I will have all Bass equipment with me to deal with the audio side of things such as instruments, cables and amps etc.

What information do you require about a venue?

A postcode/address to the venue will be of course crucial and any details about where to load in equipment. Any sound limiters or curfews will also be important information.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

I do not personally provide a DJ service but if I am filling in with a band then that is a potential option for them to consider.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

I have performed at Splendour Festival with my band Airport Dad in 2023 in front of several 100 people in the rain! It felt incredible cinematic and it was awesome to perform to such a big crowd at a prestigious festival.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

In terms of Bass guitar, my influences are Paul McCartney (being a lefty bassist myself!), Flea, James Jamerson and Thundercat. All, in very different ways, have inspired my playing and been a driving force in my practice, teaching and performing.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I joined a band in University and have been gigging ever since - until now it has been more standard local gigs with my band and now I'm excited to take that experience into the private space with Weddings, Parties and Events across the UK!

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I would have to say a wedding if I had to choose! I have played a couple of weddings in an acoustic duo and the atmosphere is always great so it's amazing to see people grooving for the happy couple!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I would typically arrive 1-2 hours before the performance to allow for set up and soundchecking but my setup itself doesn't take long at all. Standard sets would be 2x45mins or 2x60 mins but I can be, of course, flexible if needed.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Very happy to perform outside as long as we have access to power, a comfortable level surface to stand on and some shade!

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I have repertoire that clients can pick from if they want some control over the setlist but we can also decide the set based on the event if they so choose. I would limit unique specific songs to 5 songs so that I can make time to prepare for those songs.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Being a bass player the worry is always being in the background not being noticed but in my experience, audience members often come up to me after shows impressed but the solid basslines and also the energy and enthusiasm I have for playing the bass and bringing good vibes to whatever event I am at!
