Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

I had a great time in Paphos Cyprus playing both as a soloist and as part of an ensemble. I also fondly recall meeting Ken Dodd at a wedding. He was the brides uncle and true to form he had us all in stitches during his wedding speech. Afterwards he thanked me and we had a lengthy chat about his show biz life.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I have been influenced by classical guitarist John Williams as well as Brian May of Queen and Jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery. There are too many songs to have a specific fave but I enjoy anything that pleases the audience.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I always enjoyed sharing my music and took every possible opportunity to play in front of an audience. I have since performed all over the UK in concerts, weddings, corporate events and parties plus numerous performances in Cyprus.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

The events vary so much that its not easy to pick. However, when playing a concert and everyone is listening intently that is always a thrill, but so is providing background music at a private event and seeing the guests smiling and tapping their feet to the music they love to hear.

Can you play specific requests?

Yes I can but please let me know asap so that I can learn the piece(s) if not already in my repertoire.

Are you flexible with timings?

Yes, I can be flexible - within reason - as I understand that sometimes timings can change a little at various events such as during weddings.

Can you play solo classical guitar pieces for my wedding ceremony?

yes, during a ceremony I would normally play as 1.Guests arrive/are being seated. 2. The Brides Entrance. 3. The Signing of the Registrar. 4. As the Bride and Groom depart followed by the congregation.

Can you play during a Drinks Reception?

Yes, this is something I do regularly. For this part of the wedding I would normally play a wide range of music in various styles such as Popular, Classical, Jazz and Spanish. This can be in the venue or outdoors.

Can you play outdoors?

Yes I enjoy playing outdoors especially on a warm sunny day. However, if it starts to rain I would not be able to continue unless under cover.

Can you move/wander around as you play?

Yes I can as I use a cordless pick up system.

Can you provide music during the whole wedding day?

Yes I can play for multiple parts of the Wedding Day. A common request is for music for the Ceremony, followed by the Drinks Reception and the Wedding Breakfast.

Do you use backing tracks?

No, I do not use backing tracks.

How much time do you need to set up?

This can vary depending on the venue, but I always arrive with plenty of time to spare to set up in the best position. On average I would say it takes around 30 minutes.

Can we use your amplification equipment for the speeches?

Yes, this is possible (as I have a microphone available) so long as it takes place within the contracted time period.

Can you play at a Corporate Event?

Yes, I regularly play at Corporate Events and would be delighted to provide some great music for your event.

What type of guitar do you play?

I play a 6 string nylon strung Guitar made in Madrid Spain, by the famous Ramirez Guitar Company.

Can I request specific genres/artists to be performed during my event?

Yes you can. Its very common for clients to do this.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Arrival: I always arrive with plenty of time to spare in order to deal with potential problems that can catch you out if in a rush. I am very flexible re performance times but a typical event would be for two or three sets of around 50 minutes each.
Setup time will vary depending on the situation but is usually between 30 to 60 minutes. Pack up time is quicker at about 20 minutes.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, playing outside is a real pleasure but if there is rain it must be under cover. I can also wander around whilst playing.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Clients often have a say regarding the type of repertoire they want. This is particularly evident with respect to wedding ceremonies where they will often request specific pieces. However, there are many occasions where they will just leave it up to me to play a varied repertoire.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Very polite and responsive. Professional, friendly and reliable. Good interaction with guests. Great variety of music.
