About / Biography

Roadkill Blues Band – Three guys and a gal playing vintage Blues, Jazz & Rock ’n’ Roll

If you like your music with a little history, a lot of soul and a healthy dose of attitude, meet Roadkill Blues Band.

A Derby based four-piece band bringing the sounds of vintage blues, jazz and rock ’n’ roll to life, With our very own Pittsburg native on keys, Roadkill Blues Band takes inspiration from the American music that shaped popular culture – from the smoky blues joints and jazz clubs of the 1920s and 30s through to the rocking rhythms of the 50s and beyond.

Expect infectious rhythms, rolling piano, driving grooves, great melodies and plenty of musical personality. Our repertoire mixes classic songs you know and love with some less familiar musical gems, alongside original material that sits comfortably within the same rich musical tradition.

We're passionate about playing great songs, bringing them to life with our own interpretation and creating an atmosphere that gets people tapping their feet, nodding their heads and, hopefully, dancing!

Whether it's a pub, festival, private party, music venue or something a little different, Roadkill Blues Band brings an authentic, good-time musical experience with a sound that's rooted in the past but very much alive in the present.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

Several times in Dubrek Studios in Derby, we love the laid back chilled out vibe. Great gig there with a fantastic Jazz guitarist made for a memorable evening!

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

The classic blues musicians - BB King, Muddy Waters, Dr John, and Buddy Guy - 90 years old and still playing the blues. More modern players - Walter Trout, Samantha Fish

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We've all been playing for for many years, but our band is centred around our fantastic classically trained pianist, Greg. He studied in New York in the 80s, and has played professionally with some of the great American Jazz soloists as well as being a session musician in LA.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We arrive and set up 90 minutes before, including a soundcheck. Usually we play 2 sets, each between 45 - 60 minutes.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, but some kind of stage or flat surface is a must, as is weather protection!

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We have quite an extensive set list which we pick favourites from. The client is welcome to have a look and make sure that their favourite is on the set list!
