"What a fantastic way to celebrate my wife's 60th! Dave brought his guitar and created a totally unique atmosphere through his impressive jazz and swing sets, which made the day that extra bit special. A pleasure to deal with, and to have at any party or event. Personable and friendly. I would highly recommend Dave, with or without his band, if you are looking for a 'swinging' time. "

"Good-natured blues, vintage jazz and a couple of rather fine sacred items make this a hugely listenable release."

"We engaged Dave and Natalie (‘Small Days’) for our annual dinner and dance. They played for over an hour and a half whilst our 200 guests were eating. Their music selection was a wonderful mixture of vocal jazz and early blues with the occasional instrumental from Dave. Natalie has a wonderful voice and she used it to brilliant effect. Dave’s guitar accompaniments were truly excellent. Furthermore, the music struck a perfect balance between being entertaining for listeners whilst not being intrusive up on the conversation of diners. I would not hesitate to recommend them as a great addition to any social function like our own. (Sarah Baldwin Rich - Organizer St Peter's Hospice Annual Dinner and Dance). "

"Bessie’s life in blues brought back to life. Some performers deserve to be known by more than their work. Bessie Smith won fame as Empress of the Blues in the 1020’s, but there was more to her life than money and fame. She died in 1937, but 80 years on a good sized crowd were held rapt at the Thunderbolt as Dave Merrick narrated her life story, from a ragged upbringing in the American South, with the help of original recordings. Bessie shot to fame because her unique vocal style could cut through the limitations of 1920s recording technology. But it was the live performances the Totterdown audience were waiting for, and Natalie Davis on vocals, with Dave on guitar and Brenan Whitmore on saxophone did not disappoint. Renditions of I Need A Little Sugar in my Bowl, and ‘Taint Nobodies Business If I Do made the magic of Bessie shine, from the slow paced blues of the 1920s to the syncopated swing of the 1930. . the show had the audience rapt. - Paul Breeden, South Bristol Voice (May 01, 2017)"

"The Hot Four delivered an amazing set of vintage covers at my event. The singer was wonderful, charming and confident, and the band delivered the tunes with easy, and with some great solos. I highly recommend them for authentic vintage events, but would also please any crowd who may not know the tunes such as festivals, or parties."
