Review Centre: Folk Groups

"Tila died in May last year, she told me what she wanted to do for her 60th. I decided to put her birthday on for her, the first thing to do was find a band, I asked around looked on social media, someone said to me have you seen Prairie Moon. I looked them up, listened to there songs and straight away I knew this was the band for Tila. I contacted them and Sarah replied told me how much and I said yes pretty much straight away. Sarah contacted me again and asked if there was anything special they could do for Tila, I asked if they wouldn’t mind singing a couple of her favourite songs. They didn’t know these songs but they both learned them especially for Tila. Everyone was so excited and they went down a storm, they were brilliant, singing Tila’s songs brought lots of memories back and it was very much appreciated. I hope to see them both soon and we are already keeping in touch with them. Book Prairie Moon you will have a fab night and you will not regret it."

They kept my guests entertained for the cocktail hour and the whole evening, played our first dance BEAUTIFULLY and kept the night going. "Davie, I just wanted to contact you to say, ‘thank you VERY much, indeed’ to you and your band members for performing last Friday evening at the annual Grange Dyvours Tennis Club ‘Snow Ball’ and making it the tremendous success that it was. I have been to many weddings, ceilidhs and parties over the years and danced to many bands and I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt, that ‘The Big Shoogle’ stands head and shoulders above the rest. Who would have thought that weaving in Pink Floyd and Deep Purple tracks in the middle of a Dashing White Sergeant would have worked but it did! You were an absolute pleasure to deal with, before our event; you all drove a considerable distance to arrive, at exactly the time requested, to set up all your equipment then, after our dinner, you returned to put on the most amazing performance. Some of our (non-Scottish) members had never danced some of the dances before but you made sure to talk everyone through what was expected, as a warm up, before the mayhem began. My face was sore laughing, at the end of some of those dances. Just brilliant. Our ‘Snow Ball’ on Friday evening was an astounding success and we have you to thank for that. Absolutely first class. P.s. Also, thanks for taking our booking for our ball, next Christmas. I wanted to get in quick to secure you as I know how much in demand you are! "

"My heart is full of joy this morning. Last night whilst I trying to persuade my daughter to come to the ceilidh with me, She was being all 15. "I'm not dancing", "I might do ONE but only if M*&a (also 15) does it too and I'm NOT touching some random person". They both absolutely LOVED it, one dance in and they were off doing every dance and holding hands with everyone, doing a promenade with anyone that was next to them. It's really hard to find something to do with a 15 year old where they actually want to hang out with you other than a theme park, but the power of ceildh dancing seems to overcome all obstacles..."

"Blue Jewel played for the final evening of the International Conference for Research in Music Education, at Reed hall (Exeter University). Despite the very excitable and large group (100+) the band managed to get everyone dancing a lovely variety of simple dances including French and Russian ones. The balance of instruments worked really well in the space (not overpowering) and KIp, the caller. did a great job. "

"We hired Barn With Us for our wedding and they were incredible! We wanted Country music but with a bit of energy and excitement and Sound With Us delivered it perfectly. Very professional band who can read the room well and get everyone up dancing and change the dynamics at the right times. Not only do these guys show up and play like the truly talented musicians that they are, but they are also very easy to chat to and made all of the pre-arrangements easy, they even face-timed us a couple of days before the wedding to go over some details and check we were happy with what we had planned. It was a pleasure to have them with us on our big day and if you are considering hiring this band then do it...book them...you won't be disappointed! :)"

"I booked Charlie, Fred and Tom as a three-piece for my wedding and I can not be more delighted! From the minute they started right to the end there were people on the dance floor- many of them who had never ceilidh danced before. They explained the dances really well and were very patient for those that needed a bitty longer to get the hang of it. All of my guests commented on how wonderful the band were- even those that were unable to join in the dancing felt included. If you are looking for a traditional ceilidh band who has the experience to read the room well and get the crowd moving then you have most definitely found it."
